Ongoing problems with cloudy/green water... Can anyone recommend a decent, not too expensive UV sterilizer? Thanks,
Paul
UV Sterilizer
I have both the TurboTwist sterilizer (9W I think), and a 15Watt Aqua Ultraviolet one, the hang-on type. I like them both, but I probably wouldn't buy a hang-on type again, opting instead for in-line. That way I could use it either in-line, or use PVC to build a hang-on type. I'd recommend both brands though.
Yeah, in both cases (inline or hangon), a pump or powerhead is needed to drive water through the UV sterilizer. The hang-on I have, the return spout is the hanger itself, so there's no way I could use it inline, as I couldn't hook up a hose to that. There are Aqua Ultraviolet models that operate in-line, however.
Sure, you can biy intake tubes of aquaclear filters as spare parts. The u tube and then the intake piece comes as a set.
Bring the uv to lowes, get tube. Bring tube to lfs, get aquaclear intake that fits snug into tube. Use regular tube clamps to hold it tight.
Use twice as much tube, say 18", on return side, let's tubing bend over the tank rim and end in the powerhead.
Use 8-9" of tube to tie intake to uv.
Uv hangs outside tank, think of it as a hob filter with the impeller stuck on the end of the return.
