Blue-eyed rainbows
Anybody keeping blue-eyes? Specifically the threadfin (Iriatherina werneri) or Celebes (Marosatherina ladigesi)?
I've got a pair of Celebes that decided to start spawning this afternoon in a community tank, but funniest thing is that the lone female threadfin keeps trying to get in the middle of the action.
I think she needs to go somewhere to be with her own kind again. I know it's sorta hard to come by females so if anyone is keeping these and would maybe like to try breeding them let me know.

It is not murder if you're killing snails.

whyyyy did you have to start this thread noww....whyyyyy!!!:( ok, freak accident, last weeken my twenty something-years-old-piece-of-crap-AC broke again, it was allright, last week wasn't all that bad at all, but this week came back with a revenge! it was so hot inside my lil condo that the water of my 125 reached 85 degrees!!! i only noticed because i saw my furcata rainbow stuck to the surface skimmer and right away started to look around and found another one. i did a 25 % water change to kool the rest off and told my bud to hurry up with the repair. next morning, sniff, i found my 2 year old madagascar and one of the boesmani dead, as well as the other 2 blue eyes and the rest of the fish hanging in there gasping for air...stupid me! slap me twice!!! i forgot i could have kept them alive longer with an airstone... since i only had like 10 mins to spare int he morning i hooked up a hose to the powerhead and that gave them enough oxigen to make it slap me again just for forgetting! and i had moved the furs in there only about 3 weeks ago from the holding ten gallon, sniff sniff
so if your tank gets really hot for whatever reason remember that the concentration of oxigen will be less and such fish as rainbows like very oxigenated water, an airstone will reaaaally help save lives

Thank God you didn't say you learned it from the Aussies on Bowheads. For them pond breeding Blue Eyes is about as challenging as us breeding goldfish...Yawn.krisw wrote:Jim, that's where I first learned of the idea, from Bernd over in Germany. I think he induces greenwater, and breeds them in that.
