CO2 Tank Super Sale

Post by jcali10 »

I saw this sale at aquariumplants.com, a 10 lb CO2 canister for $69.99. I'm tempted to buy another 10 lb tank.

I assume this isn't filled though, right Joe? If not, you may be able to get just as good, or a better, price locally on refurbished filled tanks. (Laurel Bottled Gas, etc...)

No, that is the empty price. Filled is extra. I'll have to check on the deals at Laurel Bottled Gas. As long as they are not rentals and the Hydrostatic Testing is not due any time soon, they may have a better deal.

I called Laurel Bottled Gas, they sell used 5 and 20 lb CO2 tanks. A filled, used 20 sells for $116.20, which seems like a really good deal. Refills for a 20 lb are $19.97. I didn't ask about the 5 lb tanks.

Man I wish I had the room for a 20# tank. It costs me $16.98 for a 10#.

Cheers.

I purchased a 5# refurb from Laurel Bottled Gas about a month ago. It was about $80 filled (including tax and a one time fee for stickers). A refill for a 5# runs about 12 bucks.

20 lb Aluminum ones at aquariumplants.com measure 27.13" tall and 8.0" diameter.
I don't know it I want to have it sitting out in the open. The ones I have now are hidden in cabinets.

You probably won't find a commercially available stand for a large tank that will accommodate a CO2 tank, except for some of the REALLY expensive stand/tank combos. They are designed to keep the top of the tank at a level where most people can reach in. So for a larger tank (55 on up) this means the space between bottom of the tank and the floor is reduced. You can do what I did and build your own stand. :)

I agree. They are kind of unsightly, especially the refurbs. That's the reason why I use the 5# tanks - to conceal them under my tank inside the cabinet... Sean, do you have any pics of your home-made stand?

The 20 pounders are definitely the most economical. But I like the size and weight of the 10 # ones. No hernia risk. No special tall stand required. And they last quite a while.
