2.2 gallons
13 watts
soil substrate capped with Tahitian Moon Sand
Plants: Hemianthus callicthoides, Microcarpea minima, Bacopa var. fagilis, unidentified microsword
Fauna: exclaimation point rasbora Boraras urophthalmoides Cherry red shrimp
No heater, RedSea nano filter (turned off with the lights), Topped off daily, SeaChem Excel once a week

8 inch cube tank
Perfect simplicity...you did such a great job that it looks like a 25 gallon tank! Your tank is so small that it makes the Microcarpea minima in the back look big. How did you get the Hemianthus callicthoides so thick and lush? Did you trim a lot? It obviously likes the Tahitian Moon Sand (what is it and where did you get it...how much?).

That's a lot of questions.
It fills in rapidly when it is happy, the plant sends runners out from just about every node when it gets firmly rooted. I tried growing it emersed but it really took off when I submerged it. I'm just using the SeaChem Excel, no CO2, on this little tank and the HC still developes some pearls. How did you get the Hemianthus callicthoides so thick and lush?
I gave it a hair cut, twice, and it grows back from that mistreatment in about 2 weeks.Did you trim a lot?
It is a black sand that you can get at just about any petstore, they will special order it for you if you ask nicely. SCMurphyIt obviously likes the Tahitian Moon Sand (what is it and where did you get it...how much?).

Why turn the filter off with the lights? Wouldn't your bacteria die off with the filter off that long?

No bacteria of importance in the filter, it is to give the fish a break from the current. It's a tiny tank.
