For the mineralized soil, it's been 17 days since I set it up. I guess I have some waiting to do.

Yup, give it time. It sounds like you got it really well mineralized, which isn't a bad thing, but does make for a slower start up. Personally I prefer to err on having it this way myself.

Yes, when I read you should use about a half inch to an inch of mineralized soil, I opted for the inch.
