Burned light

Post by halak »

I have a light fixture that holds a 55W compact fluorescent bulb. This morning when I turned it on, it shut down the power and something (plastic) started burning. After I replaced the bulb and turned it on, it started burning again and was making some crackling sound. It would not turn on. What do you think caused the burning, and how can I fix it?

Well, I'm no expert, but I'll guess anyway. It could be that the connections were corroded or the bulb wasn't fully pressed into the endcap. It happens too often in the store.

The rubber around the connections in the endcap. That's where I see it happen. If it's left long enough the endcap melts.
