fluval 405 question

Post by ddavila06 »

hey guys, i have a few fluvals and i was wondering if instead of using charcoal bags i can put the activated charcoal in the basket part of the filter...stupid or not? let me know what you think, i really want to try but would hate having charcoal all over my tank or something...

Sure, but use a mesh bag.

I wouldn't have the charcoal free in the baskets. Sounds like it might be messy. If you don't want to purchase the bagged ones, use old panty hose and make your own bags. That's what we do with peat moss on occasion. Works well for us. I have lots of panty hoses with runs in them that I can't wear anymore.
Good way to recycle/reuse.
