update: the flower thing is still up there and has grown a little and looks like it might be getting ready to start opening :D

Jim - thanks for the info, I had this feeling someone had told me before that the female parts matured first specifically to keep self pollinations from happening. Some plants are evil like that :? Guess I'll stick to trying to pollinate those damn jewel orchids first before attemping any of my aroids...
