October meeting, 10/23/04
This month's meeting is at my house, this Sat. at 1 PM. The projected topic is FW Shrimp, based on Ghazanfar's expertise and my bumbling efforts.
I do not know travel time for most of the crew, but calculate based on Frederick Md, we are just barely past Frederick to the west. You know we are the boonies when Mapquest doesn't have the street addresses, only the commumity Post Office, but it is very convenient to Interstate 70.
Directions:
Robert T Ricketts
6606 Jefferson Boulevard
Braddock Heights, MD 21714
Landline: 301-371-9316
Directions from I-70 corridor and Baltimore Metro area:
1. Follow I-70W through Frederick MD to exit 49, Braddock Heights/Middletown, turning LEFT at the end of the ramp onto Rt. 40-Alternate.
2. Travel 40A west approximately 1 mile to the crest of the ridge to the first traffic signal at Maryland Avenue.
3. Turn left onto Maryland Ave., less than 1/2 mile to the second 4-way stop at Jefferson Blvd.
4. Turn RIGHT onto Jefferson Blvd, approximately 1/2 mile to 6606 on the right.
6606 has a post and rope fence at the sidewalk. It is a mid-century modern house, cedar siding, with decks on both north and south sides. There are two driveways, one short directly in front of the house for guest parking, but it only holds 2-3 cars (depending on size). A second drive leads down to the garages under the house. Parking is available there as well.
Street parking is legal and done routinely here, just please don't block anyone's drive, and make sure you are fully outside the white lines. Please do not park in front of 6607 - residence of the neighborhood crab (no, it is not me).
Directly across the street is a large hanging metal sculpture of hornet's nest - local landmark - plus a T. rex, and other assorted curiosities.
Directions from DC and its Metro area:
1. Follow I-270 toward Frederick MD.
2. I-270 ends at/after the first Frederick exit in a Y-interchange to 15N and 70E/W. Move into either of the two right-hand lanes toward I-70. (Do not take the right-hand exit to 70E). The lanes merge onto 70W toward Hagerstown.
3. Right exit at Exit 49, Braddock Heights/Middletown, turning LEFT at end of the ramp onto Rt. 40Alt.
4. Follow directions above to 6606 Jefferson Blvd.
Directions from Reston/Herndon VA and Greenway:
1. Take the Dulles Toll Road/Greenway toward Leesburg.
2. At the termination of the Greenway, follow the signs to Rt. 15 toward Frederick MD.
3. Follow 15 through Loudon Co. to cross the Potomac at Point of Rocks. After crossing the bridge, please turn your headlights ON unless you wish to make a contribution to the state.
4. Continue on 15 for +/- 7 miles, which merges into Rt. 340 to become 340/15.
5. One mile past the merge onto 340, take the right-hand exit for Mount Zion Road/Cap Styne Road.
6. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left to Mt Zion Rd.
7. Mt Zion climbs the ridge approximately 2 1/2 miles to terminate at Jefferson Blvd. Climbing the ridge is winding but decent, there is one possibly confusing Y-intersection at Stone - Mt Zion continues on the right-hand fork.
8. At Jefferson Blvd, turn RIGHT, traveling ~1 mile (through one 4-way stop) to 6606 on the left. The house before us from this side is up for sale, so watch for that sign.

Great! If anyone has difficulty with the directions, let me know. The place is actually pretty easy for most folks to find. Cell connections are still iffy inside the house, so we'll have to rely on the land line for contact if needed.
Head count would be handy - I have no clue how many to expect. We may have to take turns in the tank room, it is pretty small and cramped. I will at least hang up the Python to remove the biggest hazard. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">
If it is not pouring rain or something I will ballon the house number post for an added clue.<edited><editID>RTRJR</editID><editDate>38279.4726736111</editDate></edited>
