I bought some utricularia from Kris at the last GWAPA auction. Has anyone grow U. graminifolia as a floating plant? I placed it on top of a large growth of ludwigia repens hoping the utricularia would stick up out of the water and flower, but it doesn't seem to be responding. It is still a floating mat of plant much like when I got it out of the bag after the auction. Mary said it needs more light as I had it near the back of the tank, but with what I thought was an acceptable light range.
Any ideas on growing this as a floater because it has a really nice flower which would be spectacular to see.
IME, floating it just keeps forming a matt of submersed type growth. However, its rather easy to convert over to emersed growth - out of the tank ofcourse, if you want to simply flower it.
This plant also takes a long time to settle in and start growing. For me it seems to be several weeks. Like you said it doesnt die it is just kinda there for awhile and then will start growing.
As to the light needs of U. gaminifolia it actually grows quite lush in moderate lighting. As the others have already stated it just takes a good while to get comfortable in new surroundings.
