Guppy Grass?

Post by rich_one »

Does anyone here have guppy grass? I know it is, well... primitive, I suppose, by many of the more advanced planted experts here standards, but I have a ton of this stuff, and in all honesty... I really have no idea how it should be ideally arranged in my tank! I just basically have the stuff free floating at each end.

I'd be interested in seeing pics of how other have guppy grass arranged in their tanks, and any advice on how to arrange this plant would be appreciated. I really like it, but just don't know what to do with it! LOL...

Thanks, all.

I know a few people have it. Try Viktor or Judi. I think they both keep it.

My Najas just floats in my shrimp and quarantine tanks (so the ones that completely lack any sort of aquascape).

ah... I can see why. this stuff is just... well... wild! LOL.

ah well. I try Viktor or Judi, and if not, then maybe I should just see how creative I can get with this stuff, or just move it elsewhere... thanks!

I've got it in a couple of tanks (Kris also has a bunch I just sent him, btw), but haven't had a chance to snap any pics. I love it in my nanos and fry grow-out tanks. FWIW.

Patience....

I just got some more from Jen at the auction Saturday. It's great for livebearer tanks, as it's not a fussy plant, and provides lots of hiding places for fry or harassed females. It's also great to grab a wad and throw it into a quarantine tank.

I just let it float. Once it's happy, it tends to spread rampantly turn up in other parts of the tank, which can be annoying if you're trying to have an actual aquascape. It will send out roots, and I've had it end up rooting itself in the substrate, or attach itself to rocks.

I think Jen said she's been growing it rooted in the substrate? The bags I got from her looked almost like cuttings from stem plants, instead the wad it looks like whenever I've taken it from my tanks.

I grow it rooted in my 50G. It grows fast, yes, but I'm using it in my aquascape in a spot that I want to trim is low, but still maintain a bush. I think Najas will be resilient enough for that. (Center midground, just behind the tree trunk)

Subtract out the algae. ;-) But the point is that Najas is usable in a scape, you just need to be willing to trim often.
