American Flag Fish and Cherry Shrimp

Post by Amy_Payne »

The Jordanella floridae--are they compatible with cherry shrimp? I considered them just algae eaters (and darned good ones at that) but are they opportunistic omnivores?

Most fish will eat anything that fits in their mouths, so I'm sure the Flag Fish would eat baby shrimp. I don't know whether they'd eat or harass the adult cherries, though.

They are pretty nasty fish, Id be willing to bet they will eat your shrimp.

But in a heavy planted tank with thick ground cover, cherry are able to reproduce fast enough to avoid extinction! But they still get eaten

I'm thinking you're red cherry shrimp wouldn't last too long with them.

You never know what you're going to find, or where you're going to find it. So keep looking.

I put my new female flagfish in my 20, and she is going after the ender fry, but they seem to be doing a good job avoiding her.

I can't comment on shrimp, all mine were eaten a while ago and I didn't have any flagfish then so it was most likely my school of lemon tetras, or praecox rainbows. They are pretty agressive feeders.

Well, at least one shrimp survived, LOL. There's a thick mass of Java moss in that tank, so there may be others hiding in there. Chalk this up as another newbie mistake!
