Using a sump on a planted tank

I might be aquiring an aquarium that was formerly a reef tank with a built-in overflow and plumbing for a sump. Would this be bad because of loosing C02 too fast? I like the notion of hiding the heater and filter and placing floating plants down there while the tank is new. I'd minize splashing. that's a good question.. if you keep the sump covered (and relatively air tight) you could probably do it, or so i would think. it would sorta be like a big cannister. right? <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0">

Are you thinking about any floating plants?

More CO2 is likely to be blown off by the overflow than by the sump - assuming you are not splashing a lot in the sump - at least in my setups.
