sorry, padre... that is what I meant. that I am putting red cherries in one tank for sure, and in the other, I am considering either yellow or blue pearls... I did not mean to imply I would mix them. what I did want is two species in each tank that would not interbreed, but I do know the ones you listed will. which is why I was looking at the dark greens, which are different from the greens you have listed above... of course, me knowing to be careful they are the correct dark greens though.

way I am thinking now, I might just stick to one species per tank... say, cherries in the 33, yellows or blue pearls in the 55, and maybe toss a species of dwarf cray in the 55... just seems like it might be the best bet.

Yeah I kinda figured that's what you meant but I wanted to be extra sure. Plus, this way it's all written out for the future in case anyone else comes looking through the thread.

The nice thing is you don't have to make all the decisions right away. You can put one species per tank for now, and then down the road if/when you decide on a second species it's always easy enough to add them. Same is true for the crays, which you can keep either with the shrimp no problem, or else in a tank of their own.

If you have a little patience, you might be able to get Blue Pearls from me. Just last week I received about a dozen or so of them from Bill (Arizona Inverts), they seem to be adapting to my tank quite well. Most of them were pretty small (best way to ship shrimp is to ship babies), so I'm not sure if mine will be breeding before our October meeting, but I would think definitely by the November meeting I should have some. :)

let me know how you like them. I am not sure what to expect, color-wise, from the pics I have seen... which is why I am torn between them and the yellows for the 55 gallon... I am sure I do not want the snowballs.

and as for patience... I can assure you... I am WAY impatient! HA! however, in this case, I do not have a choice. lack of patience w/ shrimp = dead shrimp.

so I am very sure there will be no shrimp milling around either of these tanks until after the Holiday Season at the least.

I think I like the yellows... but I also think I gotta stop haunting Aquabid... man... patience is a virtue... right?

patience, rich... its for the health of the shrimp.

sigh.

I am going to start populating this tank in a few weeks... I have decided to move some driftwood and plants into the tank from my fully cycled soon-to-be discus 55 gal. tank, to help speed the spread of micro-fauna. I have tweaked my vision of this tank a bit, and would like approval or veto from the experts. I am thinking right now:

a colony of dark green shrimp (I have found a trusted source of these, and she thinks I will do fine with them... she thinks they are nearly as hardy as red cherries... does anyone disagree with this position?).

a colony of red cherries

a colony of Montazume (sp?) dwarf crays... these seem fairly hardy... anyone have any advice here on this species?

I am thinking of going invert only for awhile at first, until the colonies pick up. then I may add some endlers and galaxies some months down the road. I'd like to get the red cherries in greens going in time for the Holidays! lol...

oh... this is the 33 gallon flat-back hex.

any problems with this plan, folks? because I can start gettting the inverts within the next couple of weeks now... maybe even as soon as the next week or so, if I can get a trade deal done with some overstocked stuff I have.

Overall sounds good. Montazumae get a little bit bigger than the dwarf cajuns (2" vs. 1.5" or so is what I've heard from someone who keeps both). With any dwarf crays, you need lots of hiding spaces because young & old alike will cannibalize each other during molts...so they need space where they can be out of sight of the other crays. In general, cajuns seem to be easier to get a hold of--I only know offhand one person breeding/selling montezumae (pedro/milalic) whereas tons of folks have cajuns, including some GWAPA people as I remember there being some auctioned at our August meeting.

RCS and the dark green should go well together, I've never heard of the greens being particularly sensitive so I would imagine similar hardiness as RCS.

yeah... I was thinking of getting the crays from Pedro. however, maybe I will go with the basic cajun, since it is a bit smaller... which would be my preference, from a size standpoint. I have a large piece of wood in there that has space to hide under it. I will also be putting a little more wood in there to hopefully help with the cave effect.

I appreciate the advice... almost time now...
