How can I get my plants to grow as dense as the store sells them ? As soon as they get in my tank they get thinned and stretch out?

How are you growing them now, tell us that and we have a shot at giving advise on what to change.

With a hell of alot of luck. I just planted it thursday, and it just seems that everthing is stretching.
Dont get me wrong, im happy im growing things finally, instead of killing them.
Its a 72g bow, with 2 96w power compacts over it, and pressurized CO2 at 1 bub/psec. My 1 prob is surface scum, i cant get rid of ( posted about that already to no avail yet) another is that I an keeping glass tops on it b/c the damn cat and dog hair.

I didn't see the post about the surface scum...I use the eheim surface extractor. It works for me. The key is have the spraybar (or whatever your return is) near the surface and aimed towards the extractor.

the post is in 'equipment' .. ive got the surface extractor as well, but not goodgetting suction from it.
ive broken the tank down a few times and moved, so things might be lost as to make it run efficiently, i might pick up a new one tonight, otherwise i think that my filter might be crammed with too much media, or maybe my filter motor is dying. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0">

.. but i dont want too much surface agitation in fear of the loss of co2 from the agitiation, but i do have a powerhead that pushes stuff along the surface, but it is pretty thick now, so the surface scum isint moving at all

I wouldn't worry about CO2 loss untill after you have the scum problem under control. That's actually a common problem of newly established tanks, it does go away after a bit.

Would keeping a few mollies be out of the question? They love to eat surface scum.

I heard that rumor, but wasnt sure if it was true. Its definately not out of the question, as i eyed them up in the AC last night, but i bought another surface extractor to try. it works better than my other, but not to my liking. i left it on all night and today, so i will check the status when I get home. I think I had too much co2 puming cuz my fish were gasping last night, so I shut it off, and turned it on this am, but slowed the bubbles.

would have been cheaper to spend 8.oo on a few fish than on a 35.oo extractor that isint very efficeint in my book
