Hole in stand?

Post by halak »

Is there any reason why I shouldn't cut a hole for a CO2 canister inside the wooden stand of a 75 gallon tank so the canister would sit on the floor and not on part of the stand?

If you are talking about the plywood 'floor' of a stand, that should be ok as long as there is perimeter framing around the base. That is what should be supporting all of the vertical supports. Did that make sense?

I agree with Michael, it shouldn't be a load bearing surface.

Why not just secure it with a bungie or chain?

Jeff,

How would you do that? The canister I have under my 75 now has started tilting; that's why I thought that cutting a hole and putting it onto the floor would be the easiest solution.

ddavila,

Since it would not be seen from the outside, and the stand would hold just as well, it would not be ruined.

Screw an eylet or hook into the inside, then wrap a bungee around the canister.

See above, or if the stand has legs, wrap it around the leg and around the tank. Securing the CO2 tank to the leg of the stand.

I would go the bungie cord route. I find that sometimes the CO2 canisters will leave a rust stain on the bottom of the stand, not something you want on your floor.
