is Onyx Flourite?

OK...dumb question, but is Seachem Onyx just a greyish version of
Flourite? Their web site says no additional additives are necessary, but I'd
like to know if it is the same as the brown/red flavours of Flourite.

Oynx Sand is not Flourite, but it provides many of the same things. I don't know all of the differences, but I do know that, unlike Flourite, it adds buffers to your water. I'm using it in two tanks, and this is not a problem. If anything, it helps keep things stable with C02 injection. I don't have a single complaint with this substrate. However, I will warn you that like flourite, expect very murky water for the first few weeks, until the fine particles settle.

Hmmm. This is what I suspected. I wish SeaChem made this more clear
on their web site...even though I probably would have used it anyway!
Seeing that I am going to use CO2 the fact that it buffers the water is
good to know.
