He only recognizes me when I say that, heh.
Bob's primary business it horticultural, the aquarium stuff is a sideline that grew out of it. I had to tell him 50 times we were the aquatic plant folks, GWAPA. He never did remember the name GWAPA, so just told him those Maryland aquatic plant folks, and he'd know me.
T5 lights for a 46 inch bowfront
Err.. yeah.
It wasn't meant to like exclude other places. Sorry if it sounded that way.
I live in Maryland, so when I was talking to him to set up group orders it just came out that way... it woulda sounded funny to say the Maryland Virginia Washington D.C. and a few from Pennsylvania and Delaware too club.

I found a coralife metal halide light on sale....
What do you guys think of this..

I like the form factor, but 300 Watts!!! I only have a 46 gallon tank is it going to be overkill? Is it going to look like the flash after a nuclear bomb... for 1o hours a day.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to have to do alot of comparison.
Maryland plant club??? Aw, around here you are just part of DC metro, towns run together, states run together. Kind of like salmon being pushed upstream.

I think the Aqualight is overkill.
Even if it weren't, T5's offer several advantages.
They run cooler.
Bulbs last longer. Bulbs are more widely available in freshwater K values.
You can better vary light levels, and choose noonbursts.
You can mix and match bulbs for the effects you want, as opposed to being stuck with one K value color.
Now, for tanks like Ghazanfar's 215g, things change some, as MH is supposed to punch deeper depths of water better (debatable, but supposed to be a MH advantage). For tanks under 24" depth... not an issue, and all the advantages above apply.

Whats a noonburst? Like a higher light value at noon?
Ah Dave... do you not see my logic here in getting an overkill light??? I get that beacon of a metal halide HQI light and what do you know its too powerful for the tank I have...
so...
that means I have to get a new tank for the new light.
I appreciate the contacts, I'm going to be busy calling these vendors on Monday morning.

Problem is it is fitted for a 36" tank though.
Only thing you can do is to retrofit some kind of hanging kit maybe, and get to a 48" maximum tank possibly.
Get the 36" light.... then get a 125, 150, 180, which would use another one along side it. Neilanh's 125 and my 180g both use side by side 3' fixtures.
Noonbursting -
By using a multiple bulb T5 fixture, you can set it so that all the bulbs are on only part of the time. It is a way to have short intense lighting periods, without having to blast the tank full blast all day with intense lighting - being able to keep some higher light plants without the algae issues of a super high light tank.
So you'd do like...
12pm - 3pm 2 bulbs on
3pm - 6pm all 4 bulbs on
6pm - 9pm 2 bulbs on
It simulates the full power of the sun in nature, hence the term noonburst. sunlight hitting a stream or lake at an angle is a lot lower in intensity than the sun directly overhead beaming down.
