Don't overstock. The multi-day power outage we had last, we ran the fireplace 24/7, and have a smallish portable generator which ran a couple of radiant heaters in the pool room/tank room. I lost one tank of shrimp, no fish, not even a small group of rainbow fry. The biofilters were (SOP for me) dumped into shallow trays of aged water to avoid anoxia. No other special tank care.
Where's the fish? Neptune

If it's just a problem with still water for more than a day and not temperature I take a couple of 5 gallon buckets, siphon some water out and dump it back and forth between buckets a few times then dump it back into the tank. I do this a couple times for each large tank 2 or 3 times a day, I have not lost a fish yet. Small tanks actually usually have enough surface area that you just need to swish the water around it the tank a bit to keep from having problems. Temperature is another beast altogether, but as long as it stays above 60 and below 85 in the basement I don't have any problems.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)
