Question for all of you. What media are you all running in your canister filters? I will have 2 XP2s on my 120 and would like to figure out what media to use.
Thanks,

I run the foam pads and ceramic media in all mine. Turns the filter into a bio-filter. Don't bother with the Rena charcoal bags - my recommendation - just costs too much and you have to clean the filter every 3 to 4 weeks.

Note: the canister return line must be underwater for this technique. Also, it is not an effective technique for mechanical filter media, only materials such as bioballs or ceramic biomedia. Sponges, floss pads, etc. will not, repeat not, be cleaned by this technique. This is for biofiltration-only canisters*
1. Unplug the filters.
2. Remove the intake grid or prefiler from the intake hose.
3. Connect the Python intake tube to the canister intake tube.
4. Turn on the python in vacuuming mode.
5. Rock the canister a bit while it is back-flushing.
6. Turn off Python and detach from canister tubing; reattach canister intake grid or prefilter;restart canister.
