Why doesnt my filter work?

The thingy (Impeller?) spins but no water gets sucked in. Is there a reason why?

It needs water in there to intake more water.

the impeller can not evacuate the air.

what kind of filter?

LOL, I can't tell you how many times I've stood there and wondered why the filter is making a grinding noise, LOL...... Then it dawns on me that I didn't prime the darn thing with water. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

no biggie, I saok my feet usually because I dont have the filter totally sealed or something..
