Got a free darter/gudgeon last night, when I picked up some rummynose. Was told by the guy that he keeps getting them when he gets his ghost shrimp in. cute little guy, green all over, I need to see if I can find him this morning to see if he has colored up or anything though.

orange ring on eyes, green iridescent flakes on the gill covers, slight hint of vertical banding.

and he just tried to intimidate me I think.. He was bouncing off his fins and doing almost like the cichlid guarding a brood charge.

Sounds like it might be a swamp darter? http://myfwc.com/fishing/images/fish-pic/eth-fus.jpg

more then likely that is what it is..

Judging by size and time of year, I shouldnt expect him to live too long I think. The one article I am reading says that they only live around a year or so.

They are a nice little darter, as the name implies, they are from swampy areas so really like heavily planted tanks with little flow (unlike most darters).

See if you can get a few more and maybe breed them?
