Post by neilanh »

I figured if Dave can have a thread to post pics in, so can I!

Suggestions welcome! (requested actually - I still claim to be a newb)

125 gallon tank
2 - 36" TEK 4x39W fixtures (4 midday bulbs, 4 aquablue+ bulbs)
100lbs Soilmaster Select Charcoal
1 (soon to be 2) Rena XP4s for filtration
2 - Hydor Theo 400W heaters
Turbo Twist 6x UV (if needed)

I like the rock arrangement a lot, especially the right side.

One thing that would help aesthetically is to make a level line with the substrate along the front of the glass. I find an old hair pic works well as a "rake" for such purposes, but really anything flat will do.

I know you've already heard this a billion times, but MORE PLANTS!

Great start. I have to agree with all of Aaron's comments.

I like the openness of your rocks. Should provide for a lot of interesting/fun possibilities when you get more plants :-)

Before I was ready to run the canister, I had a 300gph water pump running (you can see it on the left side). The suction cups came loose one night and, "rolling hills" on the front of the substrate appeared. I'll get that settled back out.

Yes, more plants. Rob, I'm ready, lemme know when I can swing by. I've also start getting clippings from my other tanks, and have some stuff on order as well. Where I struggle is envisioning anything ahead of time and creating it. I typically find plants I like, get them, and then just find an open spot for them. That's how what you see above came about.

Also, there's several things in there hiding from you. Consider it a scavenger hunt. Stem plants that I had or received that weren't very tall (4-6") that I planted deep to let them root since the substrate is so light, so they're very low to the sub and hiding behind the rocks. You can just see the stellata sticking out of the rockscape on the left (1 stem is visible, there's about 8 total back there). On the back right corner is aromatica below the rocks. In the middle of the right rock formation is something else (I'm horrible with keeping track of names of these things). So, not disagreeing that I need more, but there is more than meets the eye at the moment.

I should've done this already, but need to find some wood to add in. I'll work on that.

I know a guy with some big pieces of wood.

Lemme get the 75g set up I have coming this weekend, and we'll talk some. The stump, however, is mine. :)

Neilan

I am not sure what tonight will be like but more than likely I will be home by 630ish....have soccer at 1130 so should be a quiet night. Just give me a call before you want to head over.

Will check with the wife but I believe she's out tonight, so I'm home with the kids.

Wanna swing by and scape my tank? lol

How's this weekend look? or next week even.
