20 Tall Filter Options

Post by jcali10 »

Right now I have an AquaClear 30 HOB on my 20T. I want to upgrade my filter, but I'm not sure which one to get. I initially was thinking of getting a Rena XP1 or an Eheim classic.

I have an XP2 already and I really like it. Don't know how easy the Eheim Classic would be to use.

Thanks
Joe

I run an XP1 on my 20H and love it.

I also have an XP1 on a 20H, and am very pleased with it. Within days of replacing my Aquaclear 50 with the XP1, plants that had been doing poorly were now growing better, and plants that had been doing well were now pearling. In addition, the algae that had plagued one corner of the tank disappeared.

I've never used an Eheim, so I can't comment on Eheim vs. Rena.

With all my tanks, I have varying degrees of sucess.

my 20L has an aquaclear on it and it does the absolute worst. I dont know if it is because of the higher turbulance at the surface or what.

I see Petco has them on sale, internet only for $80 until the 21st. Didn't check shipping.

My 20T has been doing okay, plants growing, algae in check, but I really want to upgrade the filter.
I was pricing XP1s online about 2 weeks ago and the best deal I found was at Petsmart.com for $61, but now Petsmart has bumped the price up to about $80 and that is about the same price point as all the other retailers. Missed a good deal.

The Eheim 2213 would be another good choice. Either that or the XP1 would work well. I've heard good things about the new canister filters Marineland put out last year. I haven't tried one yet myself though.
