Ok the more and more I keep planted tanks is the more and more I see that I probably ought to get that CO2 tank refilled, if only to help combat algae..
With that, any ideas why my 15h would have the least amount of algae?
Current plants in the tank:
Crypts (Wendtii, Affinis, random scatterings from many of you of "other")
Assorted Mosses
Java Fern
Anubias (nana, 'eyes' and at least one other)
Rotala (cuba?)
random others that I am not positive on
in ALL of my tanks, I am fighting hair algae in one form or another, I think it is coming from my plumbing tbh.
The 20g has it mixed in ALL of the moss in the tank and despite my constant plucking, I cant battle it back.
The 55g has it some but I think the inhabitants may be doing better at "eating" it. (Cherry barbs and Black Mollies do NOT eat this algae, flagfish are too scared to try, endlers seem to relish it if they get bored of trying to spawn)
The 20L has it in ALL of the HC (to the point where the HC is being choked out) and on a few different stems.
The 15h has patches of it which look like the belong almost, it is growing in clumps on the cork background. The shrimp dont seem to graze on it (a bunch of cherries, 2 Amanos from TFW) and other then one spot were it is mixed in with the moss it appears to belong in the tank almost.
Where it is mixed in with the moss, it is branching like the moss does but without ever getting above hair thickness.
The 15h is the slowest flow tank of all of mine. The powerhead is in the tank solely to move water and the Magnum is there as a quasi mechanical more like water mover as well. After almost a year of being setup, I cleaned the internal sponge for the first time last week (it wasnt very dirty).
In all of the tanks, the plants seem to be doing "ok" if not great, but I have noticed that the 15 seems to have the least amount of issue with Algae of any of the tanks.

It sounds to me like your 15G has very undemanding plants, whereas plants like HC suck the nutrients out of the water creating a nutrient imbalance unless you replace them by dosing. I'd also guess that your 15G high has less light per function of the height of your tank then your others. Is this the case?
The 15h has a totally DIY light: 3x 27w
The other tanks either have T5 aqualights, CFL fixtures or a combo.
The 55 has the coralife fixture that has been around for awhile that is 4x65w
The taller tanks seem to do better with less algae then the shorter tanks.
I dont know whether it is the way I dose (randomly when I remember) or what.

now that I look at the tanks, I think I realized what is minimizing the thread/hair algae.
Philodendron.
I have them growing out the back of the two tanks least affected by the hair algae.
It has got to be a nutrient deficiency and Ill bet that a lack of Co2 is directly contributing.
