pH is high - usually 8.4
KH was just over 100 ppm (haven't checked for awhile)
GH was 180 last time I checked (been awhile)
That's not too bad. You can still grow most every plant in that water, even though some might consider your water hard. I think you'll find the bread and butter Crypts, ferns and Anubias really love the extra minerals.

Actually, I grow as much as I can for Scales. It's one of the few plants that sells quickly and consistantly.

Well, looks like I will be doing 2 tanks!!
I set two 50's up side by side. Will probably get the first one going and then set the second one up shortly after (that way I can fix all of my mistakes and "I wish I woulda...") :D

That's a great idea, and 50G's make fantastic planted tank. Good luck, and keep asking any questions as they arise.

Cristy, you sell H. Angustifolia at Scales I thought - Corymbosa is Stricta, I've never seen it for sale in Scales...

Well, ok, I think it's H. corymbosa angustifolia and there are several more corymbosas. I still just call it corymbosa because it's easier to say and because it's what everyone was calling it when it was introduced to me. You're right that stricta doesn't sell well, nor do other large-leaved green Hygros.

Wow, I never knew Angustifolia was also a corymbosa! Cool! :)

I have come to the conclusion that Flourite will NEVER completely rinse clean. I used a small flour sifter and rinsed three bags, 1 cup at a time. I spent about 4 hours total. Slowly added water to the tank today and still get a red/brown cloud. Now I figure I still have to do a couple of water changes to get most of the dust off the bottom now that it has settled out (mostly). :(

You're probably right Michael. Usually it will settle after a couple water changes. I don't even bother rinsing anymore. I figure it'll clear up eventually. ;-)

The best thing to do is to get it heavily planted so that the plants can hold down loose particles, and help filter out the excess nutrients.
