Alternate intake/outtake for XP3

Post by B Considine »

Can anyone recommend a cheap(ish) alternative for both ends of an XP3? I'd like something similar to Eheim's surface extractor rather than the conventional tube intake, and would prefer something like a lilly pipe/shepard's crook for the out.

Intake, fluval/Aquaclear/(insert brand here) surface intakes fit them, they are like 12-15 dollars, just look for surface skimmer - pretty sure House of Tropicals, among others, keep them in stock. Several brands, all look exactly the same.

Out - umm, I only know of glass ones like that, but Rena's come with a jet nozzle attachment...this is not a cheap solution of you go glass, is there a reason not to use the included jet? (Only reason for that shape on the glass ones is to create a whirpool for surface cleaning, which is redundant with the intake.)

Thanks, Dave.

Of the two options--jet flow or spray bar, which provides a "gentler" return?

spray bar is gentler by far, but I've had trouble getting good circulation with the spray bar myself in my 55g, went to the jet end - in my 26 bow and 36" tank spray bar works great though.
