Marimo Balls

Cladophora aegagropila, also called "Tribbles" or "Algae Balls", or "Marimo Balls"

Has anyone tried these ? I have seen them before, and I just saw one one ebay.

You can get it from Aquarium Center in a cheaper price. I have 2 of them. I got it about a month ago. So far they do well. Interesting plant to have.

Im sure they are cheaper at the AC, i was just browsing Ebay and it caught my attention. ...hmm i have nothing to do tonight .. i might make a run up there and see whats new. if i recall they get stock in on thursdays <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0">

Aquarium Center had some the last time I was there
for $4 each. I haven't tried them - have some fear
of it mutating and taking over my tank.

Just kidding about the mutation. It has not been known
to happen. I just don't want to put an algae in my

i have had one in my nano tank over a year. no problems. i just took it out last month. it doesnt fit into my redesign. try it. they look cool!!!

I have a few. I got them when I had an algae outbreak & added them to the tank on the competition theory, hoping that a more complex form of algae (the balls) would out compete the other non-cummunity algae. The tank cleared overnight.

They're easy to reproduce. Wait till about 3" in diameter, & cut in half. They will curl up & for m a new ball, slowly!
