Dual digital timer? Where to get, what to get?

Post by ingg »

Gathering up the equipment for the 180g.

I need a timer, at least dual, triple would be even better, that is in sync.

I plan to noonburst the lighting - cycle them like something this:

1.5 hours, 4 bulbs
1.5 hours, 8 bulbs
3 hours, 12 bulbs
1.5 hours, 8 bulbs
1.5 hours, 4 bulbs.

I'll need the timing to be totally in sync to do this - 4 plugs. 2 plugs have 2 bulbs each, other 2 plugs have 4 bulbs each.

How do I do it? Coralife timer doesn't really do it, with the day/night thing....

Also plan to time the CO2 via solenoid and timer, but that is easier, can be on its own timer...

Heeelp!

For my staggered lighting, I just use 2 timers. If I need to run multiple lights at the same duration, I just split out the timer's outlet to multiple plugs.

I also plug the solenoid into my longest duration timer.

So, I usually have:

Timer 1 with electrical splitter:
10 hours of lights (driving two lights)
CO2 On

Timer 2:
4 hours of lights mid-day (driving one)

Looks like you'll need three seperate timers.

Yup, three separate timers is the way to go. Plug them all into the same power strip to make sure they stay in sync. Also, get digital timers with battery backups to save yourself from having to reset anything when the power flickers or fails.

I got mine from Home Depot a few years ago. I think they ran me $15-$20. I scoffed at the time, but I've never had a problem with mine, unlike multiple cheaper mechanical ones failing in that same period.

Walmart has the cheapest digital timers with battery backup that I've found. I think the brand is Wells Fargo, I'll check tonight to verify brand and cost.

Brinks is the brand - $11.67 each. Model 44-1020 - single outlet digital timer with battery backup. I sent query to manufacturer to ask if they make dual outlet model of same.
