Original plan was two 3' long 4x39 watt T5HO TEK systems.
I started asking around some forums in pm's, and asking some folks inside GWAPA, etc.
Getting back mixed answers - but there seems to be some doubt that this lighting would grow a foreground of HC, keep any high light sensitive stuff going, essentially limit my options.
So, I start shopping around.
I could get a light it to hell and back system from Current, but the reflectors on the t5's may not be as good as TEK - probably aren't - with 8x39w and 3 150w metal halides, like http://www.current-usa.com/outerorbithqit5ho.html.
On a whim, I went over to Catalina Aquarium's site. Now here is another neato option - 12x39w, moon lights, and the buggers are on a remote control! http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product ... ts_id=1503
I'm figuring prices around the following -
8x39w TEK, and bulbs, $500-550 + shipping, bulbs *probably* extra, one seller I might be able to talk into including them.
Gonna hafta replace a bunch of T5 bulbs in Current Fixture. That one is around $900 + new bulbs, by far the most expensive.
Catalina is $778, includes bulbs, 12 total moonlights, remote controls that double as timers.
12x39w TEK Looks to be about $690 + Shipping, same deal, *might* get some bulbs included from one seller.
The Current Fixture looks like total overkill to me. The Catalina Fixtures looks really neat! I wish I knew more about their lights, they *seem* to match up very well to TEK's, Workhorse ballasts, individual reflectors... just has a few extra neat add ons that'd be awfully nice, and bulbs are included!
Longwinded, sorry - I just really don't want to make a mistake here.
So, what would you folks do?
Okay, so lighting the upcoming 180g.

How deep is the tank? If it's over 24 inches, I'd go metal halide.
Cheers.

I believe he's doing a built in style such as yourself.Ghazanfar Ghori wrote:3 x 175W MH would work out well on the 180. I'm assuming you're
going to make a canopy?
3 x 175 or 3 x 150 watt MH + 4 x 39 watt T5HO.
Have the MH come on for only 3-4 hours and the T5s will be mostly for viewing purposes the rest of the photoperiod.
