Asian Ambulia (Limnophila sessiliflora) question

Post by neilanh »

Got this asian ambula (Limnophila sessiliflora) a few weeks ago. It was hot, and didn't ship great, but it has really recovered nicely and is growing like mad now.

My question is about the spacing between the leaves. What causes the length here? I thought plants, generally speaking, would grow taller and with more length in between the nodes (or whatever) if there wasnt enough light, but I've got over 3WPG in this tank. Any ideas?

Not so good pic below. Don't notice the cloudy water, that just happened today out of nowhere and I'll figure that out later.

That plant seems to grow like that under intense light. Slower growth is the key.

Yah, shade it. It is the opposite, when it sees light, it skyrockets for it making the long nodes....I used to have some a while back that was nice and dense, heh, says a ton for my lighting. :(

Alright, so either this plant is backwards, or my thinking was.

I'll try to shade some clippings and see how it does. Thanks for the info!

Oh - what creates the pinks in it? Is that based on lighting, or is it nitrate based like the ludwigias?

Oh man, I just trimmed and trashed this afternoon. Gimme ~3 days, it grows like nuts. I'll be in touch. I love it, awesome looking plant.

It is a nice looking stem for sure. It also takes pruning quite well - you can just keep triming it back like a hedge and it keeps coming back. Bottoms dont
get too ratty or anything.
