Anyone Still Keeping Val nana?

Is anyone still keeping this one? Simple curiousity. I traded for Val nana recently, except the one I got is different from the one I used to have. This one has thin flat leaves with faint mottling.

I saw one at Scales that looked a little different. Leaves were thinner and the plant had 2-3 runners. It was as tall as is usual. I concluded it's the same just growing different.

The ones that I used to have didn't transplant well in that they'd die without optimal growing conditions. So I assumed this one is looking more robust in that it seems to be growing well, but the leaves look a little flatter as you said, Aaron.

Ha! Don't I wish, but after two failures i will wait until I can give it its own tank to try again. Those elegant leaves were great.

I got sick of it growing 3 feet long, good riddance.

Bummer. I wonder if anybody still has it? True it was huge, but it was such a nice plant.

Don't have that variety. I just got some in from Luis and they seem to be
the flatter leaf kind with a brownish pattern.

'fraid not. But that gets me thinking, I miss the "Tiger" or "Marble" Val. that everyone had about 20 years ago; olive to brown plant with a brown tiger pattern to the leaves. Got about 4-5 feet long and about 1in wide. One of the easiest plants I've ever grown...you could almost watch the thing grow. It's only 2 detractions were getting 5 foot long leaves, and new plants always emerged feet from the mother plants. Although the angels and discus loved it.

There is a tub of the val nana (the type Sean had) growing under the af cichlid rack at Scales. It was 5' long when I planted it, but all the long leaves died off. Now it's all growing very slowly at ~ 1-2" tall. Personally, I prefer the val nana we got from Florida. I ordered Val caulescens, due in this week - can't wait to see it!

Thanks Cristy. Is it for sale? I wouldn't mind putting one or two in my tanks again. If I recall, that's all it takes.

This Val nana sort of has a tiger stripe, though faint. I'll bring what I can on Saturday.
