Adding soil to substrate

Post by DelawareJim »

I'm starting my 29 gal Endler tank this weekend and I'm thinking of going with a soil bottom layer and a flourite top layer.

So the question is, how deep a layer of soil should I go?

Sean, et. al., what's your expert advise?

Cheers.

Well, if you want to do it this weekend Sean's way won't work. ;) He soaks, dries, soaks, dries, repeats several times over about 1-2 months to make sure the soil is completely mineralized before introducing it to the tank. This way it contains very little to no organic compounds available to algae and all the minerals and nutrients the plants do need available to their roots.

Perhaps he'll write us an article? Sorry Sean....just couldnt' resist that one. :D
