Re: Simple Macro Mix
You can mix it in - no issues.
B deficiencies...
Mild deficiencies show up as plants being brittle, short internodes, very bushy growth.
Medium deficiencies - distorted new growth
Severe deficiencies - death of meristem

Re: Simple Macro Mix
Hey Kris,
here's the new mix I was talking about earlier...
Stock A
Water (milliliters) 250
Ca(NO3)2.4H2O (grams) 10
Mg(NO3)2.6H2O (grams) 4
KNO3 (grams) 10
H3BO3 0.4
Stock B
MgSO4.7H2O (grams) 3
KH2PO4 (grams) 4.5
Dosage is volume of tank 3 x weeks but in ml
e.g 75G tank will get 75ml of both stock a and b - 3 times weekly.
50G tank will get 50ml of both stock a and b - 3 times weekly...so on and so forth...
The excel file attached has the details if you need more info...
Besides lowering the Ca and Mg amounts, this mix also has higher phosphates...better color hopefully and less greenspot

Re: Simple Macro Mix
Kris - like I'd mentioned, I'd switched back to the standard EI, to re-establish a baseline. Now that I've been using this updated recipe for the last 2-3 weeks (minus the boron since I want to control that separately) I can see an obvious positive difference in the growth of myro sp. Guyana and all the ludwigias. The polygonum is doing markedly better too.
The rotalas seems to continue to do ok. All the rest (parva, eriocaulon, hygro sp. araguia etc) seem to not show any maor difference yet.
Overall - looking good so far. Several more weeks of this needed. Would be interested in hearing about what you're seeing.

Re: Simple Macro Mix
So far, I've noticed better color in Ludwigia brevipes. Myrio Red Stem is growing like crazy (but it's hard to tell a difference from before) No apparent difference in Bolbitus. I actually just rescaped the tank I'm doing this in, so I've probably ruined some of my comparables, but that's what I've got thus far.

Re: Simple Macro Mix
So,
I decided to try your recipe
But I think it was the one where you had 50gm Kn03, not the formula that is listed in the beginning of this thread (180 gm)
Did you bag the earlier one,?
The dosage for that was 1ml/10 gal. ( I think?)
Please let me know what the current idea/plan is,
As I would like to try it on a couple of my tanks...
Thanks
David

Re: Simple Macro Mix
David, I'm still using the one from May 22nd, but I'm mixing up 1 liter at 3x concentration so that I can dose less volume per day to make it last longer.
Ghazanfar, I'm noticing that Limnophila, Pogostemon, Ludwigia do very well. Eriocaulons are doing okay. Rotala indica, Cuphea anagalloidea, and the Myrio Guyana survive but aren't thriving. Have you noticed any of these effects?

Re: Simple Macro Mix
The rotalas seem to prefer less Ca. Everything else seems to be growing well, including the Erios.
Starting to lose track of what I posted up here and what I'm using - should be the same as what we had shared earlier but I'll post it here just to be safe...
Stock A
Water (milliliters) 250
KNO3 (grams) 25
Ca(NO3)2.4H2O (grams) 50
Mg(NO3)2.6H2O (grams) 5
H3BO3 0.12 0
Stock B
Water (milliliters) 250
KH2PO4 (grams) 14
MgSO4.7H2O (grams) 25
Dosage varies - but depending on how hungry you tank is start with
1 ml per gallon of tank per week (50 Gallon would get 50 ml / week)
I've dosed as high as 3x when tank was in full growth mode.

Re: Simple Macro Mix
Well:
this is the amounts I took off an earlier thread:
stock A
300 ml distilled water
40 gms Ca(N03)
24 gms Mg(N03)
20 gms KN03
add H20 to 500 ml.
dose 1 ml per 10 gal 3xweek
Stock B
13 gm KhP04
mixed in 500 ml
dose 1 ml per 10 gal 3x wk
dose a comercial trace/iron mix on other days
If I am off on these measurements, or dosages, please advise.... I have looked at several of your formulas now so maybe i am getting confused....
just started, so early for me to make any judgements, but will keep on top of it.
