Green Water

Post by mhossom »

Perhaps I am a victim of new tank woes or I don't know what I am doing. Probably the latter. I have been fighting green water for nearly a month now and I am getting very frustrated. Where do I start in combating this monster? I have shortened my photo period, cut back on the amount of light, water changes...)

Thank you for helping a newbie out.

Try a UV sterilizer.

The problem is that I have neither of those items.

Here are some other options. Check your Nitrate and Phosphate levels first and dose to get them in balance (see article).

Uv is about the only thing I've found that will take care of green water besides just waiting it out. I have both the 9W and the 24W:

for a couple of years now, within 3 days pea soup to clear water (with a 60% WC on day 3).

Daphnia in a breeder net works really well, too. They cleared a 29g in 1-2 days.

Daphnia will also make for great fish food as well!

OT: I've been feeding frozen daphnia to my critters and they seem to do really well on it. Also frozen rotifers and frozen brine shrimp. They're spoiled.
