Planted Tank - Macros, Micros, & So On... Where To Purch

Post by Tyger »

Folks,

I thought I would ask where people tend to purchase their dry ferts with consideration to best price and solid quality. In addition, I was wondering where I might find a primer regarding the different dosing regimes that folks use. Thanks, in advance,

I don't know where the best place to purchase is, but I found THIS recent thread on Planted Tank really helpful in seeing how people go about dosing/mixing micros and their thoughts on the matter.

I'm sort of the old dog trying to learn new tricks with all this lately.

I just recently restocked my dry ferts, and bought from Green Leaf Aquariums. One of GWAPA's sponsors (Bob's Tropical Plants) also sells dry ferts. Only reason I didn't go with them was because I was already ordering something else from GLA.

For micros I use Seachem Flourish and Flourish Iron, and get them in 2L jugs from Big Al's or Dr. Foster Smith.

As far as dosing regimes go, I start out a tank using the Estimative Index method, and then start tinkering with it. (Unless it's a tank with Aquasoil, in which case I don't dose at all in the beginning, and then sparingly as the tank ages). I just dump the dry ferts in; I'm too lazy to go to the extra step of dissolving them in water first.

I have used aquariumfertilizer.com for dry ferts. Pretty good prices, very fast turnaroiund. I typically go with the Potassium Nitrate, Potassium phosphate, and plantex csm+b. If you're tank already has high enough N you can substitute K2SO4 for the KNO3.
