Recommendations for root tabs

Hey all... I like to put root tabs in a couple of my sand tanks and know there has got to be a better way to do it than buying the overpriced 6-packs just because they're targeted for aquarium use.

That said... anybody use the more generic types you buy in a big bag from, say, Home Depot or a garden store? They can't be much different... maybe just bigger.

Right?

Jobe's sticks are very cheap and work well.

If I recall you want to ones for palms and ferns, I dont remember why though, maybe little lower NO3 and PO4

The palms and ferns Jobes sticks have a lower PO4 content, but I have never actually seen them for sale anywhere. The regular sticks work alright for me, I don't use anything larger than an 1/8th of a stick.

I use the Jobe's outdoor spikes. They're larger and don't have leave the matrix residue behind that the houseplant spikes have that some people don't like. They're just compressed granular fertilizer. Unfortunately they don't do an aquatic plant spike anymore. I get the Azalea, Camellia, Rhododendron spike that's as close to 1-1-1 N-P-K as they make or the potted plant spike at a 1-3-1 ratio for more P from Lowes or HD.
