I have mixed up PMDD trace mix for a doser and it is growing fungus. I read that HCL helps to control it. Does anyone have any thought on this?
I have not had this problem before so I am wondering why. I used distilled water so the water was not contaminated.
Does anyone have a source for HCL?

I keep it in the refrig and use refrigerated mix for dosing.

You can add a little bit of Seachem Acid Buffer to your trace mix to prevent this.

How much is a little? I am mixing a liter at a time for 30 day dosing.
I used to keep it in the frig and in dark glass bottles and I didn't have this trouble before, but I am using clear plastic bottle sitting next to the tank.
Thanks for the help.

Darn it, you called me on it! It's been so long since I mixed ferts, but I think it was about 1/2 tsp for a 250ml bottle. I honestly don't remember for sure though. Ghazanfar, you know? (Ghazanfar told me about this trick awhile back)

You need just a little - in 1 liter - a quarter teaspoon will do. It'll acidify the
solution enough to make it unfavorable to bacteria / fungii.

Great. I have acid buffer so I will try that first.
Thanks again. I have a wedding to go to this weekend so I won't make it to the meeting. Hope to see you next month/

I strained out the fungus and added the acid buffer but there is still stuff floating on top.
I am using it without any problems just wondered if anyone thought the fungus was dangerous?
