I didn't rinse the SMS at all. Too much trouble. It was so dusty I had to wear a mask or get black lung. Filled the tank with water, let it sit for a day or two without filter, then gravel vacuumed a bit. Turned on the filter and all is good. Sure, I get a bit of a dust cloud when ripping out a large plant, but the filter takes care of that in less than an hour. I know the pain of rinsing Flourite. I'll never do it again.

For those of you that were at the meeting at my place the last time it was SMS that we used as a substrate without rinse so it didnt create much of a cloud but it was heavily planted by the time the tank was filled

Wow. Lookie at what I started.
I get the message. Cease and Desist on the rinsing! Something tells me the more I was stirring it up in the rinsing process the more silt it was creating. I imagine eventually I would have come to the C&D conclusion....

It is not murder if you're killing snails.
Not rinsing actually works. I rinsed Flourite for hours trying to get it clean and still ended up with cloudy water. Kris told me to forget about rinsing, so I didn't rinse when I set up the next tank and only got a tiny cloud that went away within 2 hours.
