DIY tank info needed

I am thinking about building a nano type tank for my living room with shrimp and nano fish only. I tried calling around today for Starphire glass but only made a connection with Banner Glass in Glen Burnie, they took my dimensions and said they would return my call with a price. But any other glass outfits were either small and no answer or acted like I was a nut.

Can anyone offer a link or phone number to a glass company in Maryland, Northern Virginia, or DC?

StarPhire is a brand of low iron glass. You might try asking for just low iron instead.

Also consider the Mr Aqua tanks which are rimless and available with low-iron glass.

I did Jim it's just most places did specialty like car glass or shower doors, it seemed very few were interested in a special order. I really want to build my own even if the savings are nill, what ever happened to a good old fashioned hardware store that could order anything if had the cash.

Not local, but try glasscages.com. I don't know that I would trust them for a tank bigger than 50 gallons or so, but you can order cut pieces of glass and they will either meet you when they come locally or ship. IIRC prices were decent too. Good luck!

Browns glass in York, PA does custom glass work. Dunno if they have low iron.

You could pick up some critters at Rachel's while there as well!!

Thanks everyone, I did see glass cages but something put me off about them but I'll take another look, I not sure about shipping glass too.

donkeyfish what is IIRC?

The tank is going to be small, 12 gallon or so like the GLA 91B but I was going 30 x 10 x 10 and was going to copy them with an 8mm bottom and 5mm sides.

For what it's worth glass cages has been around for awhile. I haven't ordered from them personally but know people who have, some who ordered pieces like you and had no problems at all, even with shipping. You know, in case you can't find anything local of course!

Thanks, it's good to hear referal info, I was on the fence with shipping glass. Maybe I'll just send them an email with my dimensions and see what their price is shipped.
