Lighting Suggestions

Post by John G »

I have a rather small aquarium I want to use for plants—it is 16 inches wide. Does anyone have any suggestions for a light fixture I could use with that?

I think a lot of people use desk lamps for tanks that small. I personally use the 7w version of this: http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Perch-Li ... 520&sr=8-3
The turtle guy - I don't do water changes.

If you want low light, there's a 16" single strip light at Petco. http://www.petco.com/product/107313/Aqu ... Light.aspx

If you can find an incandescent fixture I like substituting a CFL for the supplied bulb. The cheapo flourescent fixtures often have "hummy" ballasts.

CFLs are silent.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions.

I finally bought the Aqueon hood made for 16 inch aquariums. There were two things I liked about it: First, it fits the aquarium exactly. Secondly it was on sale at the Super Petz on John Marr Drive (they are having a sale on everything now). It comes with an 8000K, 14 watt bulb, which should be fine for the 7 gallon tank.

Here is a link: http://www.aqueonproducts.com/products/ ... -hoods.htm
