PAR for the course

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot - I'm new to this site. I live in the DC area and have two small planted tanks. I will be borrowing a PAR meter from a friend living in Florida and would like to take readings from different member's tanks in this area. The only draw back, I don't have a car. If you would be interested in picking me up and looking at your lights PAR levels, PM me. All of the information will go towards a study on light levels.

The data once it's collected will provide realistic lighting options, distance needed from the substrate to grow plants and reduce algae, etc. I think there may even be a calculator in the works. The wpg rule is not based on any real data and anyone new to the hobby following the wpg rule with the newer light fixtures is in for a lot of problems and unnecessary expense. I'm not sure of the science, but the more data I collect, the better for everyone behind the project who is. Right?

Is there someone in this area that already checked out peoples PAR levels? A few people with PVAS have shown interest. Are you all on vacation? Anybody out there?

Welcome to the forums! I think a lot of folks are on vacation and otherwise engaged in the hustle of summer. It is an interesting bit of research, but it's a bit of a hard sell since you don't have your own transportation.

I agree with Kris, your welcome to come test my tanks, but Im not really interested in driving into DC to pick you up then take you back for some PAR readings. Im sure its good for your experiment but most here are aware of how much light it takes to grow plants in X size tank. There are a few folks a little closer to you that may be interested.
