Where to get rimless tanks?

Post by chris_todd »

So if I wanted to buy a rimless tank, it looks like the current options are:
ADA - the gold standard, but you pay for it
ADG - not actually on the market yet
Oceanic Illuminata - apparently available at TFW locally, though I can't find any info on the web other than a few mentions on reef websites. Anyone know if they offer anything other than the 57g size?

Any others? I know about glasscages.com and aquariumobsessed.com, which will do custom work, but I've heard spotty reviews about glasscages quality and customer service, and I have little info on aquariumobsessed. Are there any local glass shops that do custom tanks?

Chris,
Just curious, how much is the 57g Illuminata at TFW?

The one they have is a reef ready.

Expect to pay ~300 for the tank (without bulkheads), and the only stand currently on market to fit it that isn't an AGA pine stand is the Oceanic Tech reef ready tank stand (go figure, they haven't begun production of a regular one), ~400.

I was really impressed by my brother's. Tight build, all beveled. 36x18 footprint, 21" tall.

That seems pretty reasonable for a rimless tank that size. Wasn't the ADG tank $800+?

I don't know how much the ADG-brand rimless will be, but you can get an ADA 90-P (a little smaller than the illuminata - roughly 36" x 18" x 18", about 48 gallons) from ADG for about $450 (not counting shipping, which will be expensive).

This would be roughly comparable to a 90-p, just slightly taller.

! Glad Aaron and I picked those up when we did that group order a couple of years ago! I think we paid $250 shipped...

Supposedly the Green Leaf aquariums are made in Germany and are on par with ADA aquariums. GWAPA also gets a 20% discount from them on group orders. Something to think about. I'd be tempted to get their bookshelf model...
