Trying to find the best option for CO2 on my 30C. Unfortunately I can;t use any of my other CO2 setups to get CO2 to my nano tank.
I found this paintball regulator
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/4531/product.web
Pricing paintball tanks 20 oz. the only place I found so far is Wal-mart and they are about 28 bucks. There used to be a paintball shop in Ellicott City off Rt. 40 right by me but its out of business. A swap at wall mart is like 10.00.
Space is an issue, as this tank is going on a small stand in the bedroom. I didnt really want a big 5lb tank and regulator in there and Im sure my wife wont like it much either. It would have to sit beside the stand as there is not enough space vertically to fit it.
So what are my options? Anyone have a 2.5 lb tank they arent using that they would like to sell? Any suggestions for paintball places in the Howard county area?
Nano CO2
The Hydro test date expired on my old 12oz. aluminum bottle so I got a new steel bottle from Pevs for 19.99.
All total it was $21 with tax, plus they swapped my old valve onto the new bottle and filled it for free
They had 2 larger bottles one for $30 and another for $40 but I can't remember the exact volumes, but they should fit in your cabinet and won't take up alot of room.
They're in Rockville on Rockville Pike it's about a 10-15 min drive from where this months meeting is.
All their tanks are set up with paint ball control valves. If your are using a paintball set up(regulator) you can purchase the tank and get it filled on the spot.
If you are using a non paintball regulator(conventional) then you would have to wait 24 hrs. because they have to glue your old valve to the new tank.
Here's a picture of mine. It measures just over 14in. high and 11in. wide the knob for the gauge sticks out 4in.
A paintball regulator is probably more compact.

The Smart Parts adapter allows for the tank to be attached to any standard CGA-320 type regulator. The adapter solves the problem by making the tank into basically a standard co2 tank(it pushes down on the pin). It has a knob to open and close the tank. This part is really the only thing needed to make this whole setup work. I got the adapter from gppaintball.com. Here is the link:

Follow the product link for CO2, then click on the icon that says on/offs to see a picture of it.
It bumps up the cost of the setup by about 20 bucks. I think it's kinda neat. But I've not tested it. Only thought about using it for a small setup.
This CO2 part I read about on APC, in the DIY section. I copied a portion of it. See below. All their tanks are set up with paint ball control valves. If your are using a paintball set up(regulator) you can purchase the tank and get it filled on the spot.

Thanks Kevin! I need a regulator no matter what, so if Im going to go the paintball tank route I guess Im better off just buying a paintball regulator. From your photos it may still be a tight fit in the stand.
Joe, thanks, that looks like the same part Rick had on his CO2 setup for his nano tank as well. If I had a regulator to use Id get that for sure.
Also searching around I found this part

Im not sure if this would work for a normal regulator, it dosent look like it pushes the pin of the paintball tank down. Maybe an old version. I think the safety pin is a newer implementation.
Seems since I have to buy a new regulator anyway, the most economical is to just buy this paintball regulator

And a 20 oz. or larger paintball tank. Does that seem like the best option for me?

Jeff,
I talked to a very knowlegable guy at Pevs. He's been working CO2 stuff for 15 years and he suggested getting the adaptor so you can use the bottle with any set up. I'll look and see what kind of regulators we have at work... I think my boss might have a Paintball regulator(Red Sea?) in stock if so I'll let you know what the price is.

Not to hijack this thread, but how much does a paintball set up cost, how long does it last between refills, and are the paintball parts compatible with a larger CO2 tank set up?
I'm really intrigued by CO2 systems, and would DIY one, but I'd prefer something more consistent. I have homebrewed in the past, and my basement is subject to temperature swings, which does affect yeast.
