nano canister

Post by JMLenke »

ok, got my nano up and running (still working out the whole what plants for it portion) but decided to go with a canister instead of the HOB azoo/Red Sea filter.

Picked up a ZooMed 501 last night at the PVAS meeting, and once I finally got all the air purged it is surprisingly quiet. The flow seems pretty slow for the size but overall it isnt bad.

DrFosters and Bigals both carry them.

Cristy mentioned the Toms River which is about half the price but from what I have read online, the hoses should be replaced prior to use as they have a tendency to pop off.

Ive been going back and forth between the 2 for my ADA tank. I hear the Tom is crap and breaks pretty often you and have to rig it all together. Not to fond of leaks in a 2nd floor apartment. Ive heard the Zoomed is the better. But you are saying the flow isnt any good? I think the Tom has to be on the tank is the zoomed the same? Maybe your flow is bad due to the head?

My zoomed is sitting on the shelf that the tank is sitting on so at most there is a 3ish" difference. I set it up at 1130pm last night so I didnt trim back any of the tubing (Im sure that is playing a HUGE part in the flow issue).

The flow isnt bad per say, it isnt shoving the Aquasoil around and on the 2.5 the spray bar is almost end to end, I just prefer a higher turnover. There is a hang on bracket for the zoomed as well but all the pictures I have seen of it in use have not shown it hanging on the tank.

Wow, you think it's slow for a 2.5g? Something's not right. The 2 I use are each plenty powerful for 10-15g tanks.

uhhh what??

Im trying to get away from my old philosophy of flow till the fish are pinned then back off some.

Now that I am slowly figuring out this whole grow plants thing, I dont need so much turnover that the fish are pinned to the glass/gravel.

I've got a 501 on my 5 gallon tank. The flow using the spraybar is weak. I swapped that for a small Eheim shepard's crook and the flow is really nice now. I'm only using ceramic noodles on the intake side, which probably has some effect on flow as well.
