I'm considering upgrading to one of these types of canister filters in the near future. It seems as though the external pump used on these is put inline before the canister itself. I wonder if it's possible to run it after the filter to avoid any stray fish or baby shrimp from getting churned in the impeller.
True, I could use a sponge prefilter, but I like the idea of only having to open the canister now and then to rinse out the sponge and would prefer not to have the bulky prefilter in the tank as it's a show tank in the living room.
Does anyone have any experience with these types of canisters?
