hmm, I think I will go with the T5 only because this will be in my bedroom and I would prefer less heat output if at all possible.

krisw wrote:I know the craze is for T5's, but regarding AHSupply, I can definitely recommend their 2x96W setup for your 50. That what I run over my 40Br (same footprint), and it's almost too much light. I'm using a custom built canopy, and the 96W bulbs fit perfectly.
In regards to what you said Kris, I just received this back from AH supply
I believe you'll be able to get all the light you want for one of these freshwater tanks in just one of our 36" enclosures. Each 36" enclosure will hold two rows of lights. Each row could be a 1x96w kit, or a 2x36w kit, or a 1x55w kit. So you could have up to 192 watts (two 1x96w kits, for instance) in one 36" enclosure, which would definitely be all you would want even on the 50g tank.

cool thanks..

still looking at the Tek2's more though, been going back through the group order thread to get an idea for the best bulbs to get etc.

Only problem I have found is that if I get the retro kit(s) I will have to DIY a splash guard vs. getting a 4x39 fixture and buying the splash guard.

In the thread, one thing Dave mentioned was something about best prices around this time, I wasnt too sure what he meant about that though, any idea?

Im guessing that a second group buy on these isnt gonna happen so I am going to bite the bullet and order as soon as I figure out which one I really want to get (retro or prebuilt).

Actually, from AHSupply, the 55W kits are straight pin, but the 96W kit I got are square pin.

I have a few more converter's for square fixture to straight pin bulb if you decide to go that route.

Ok which T5 bulbs would suit me best??

From the group thread it looks like 2x of:
http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Flu ... _Giesemann
are ideal, and then for the other 2 which would be better?
http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Flu ... l_Electric
or
http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Flu ... V_Lighting

Thanks

still trying to decide if I want to just spend an extra 40 and get the regular Tek fixture with bulbs or save 40 and get the Tek2 retro kit..
