Soilmaster

Post by Ben Belton »

Some people on plantedtank.net are talking about soilmaster for a substrate. Anyone know what it is? Sounds a little like Aquasoil.

I've never used it, but from what I've read, it's just another fired clay substrate. The benefit is that it's much cheaper than equivalent "aquarium" substrates if you can find it in your local garden/hardware store.

Ben,

It's more like Shultz Aquatic soil than Aquasoil, though apparently not quite as light. It's available at www.lesco.com. They sell a 50 lb. bag for $16.00 and you can order the charcoal color to be delivered to a Lesco store near your home. Make sure you get the Soilmaster Select as that has the grain size you'll want.

Some people on APC had some decent things to say about it. For $16 for 50lbs... it's definitely worth a try. Aquasoil is a little high for someone like me who has a good time farming.
