Inline pump

Post by Jeff120 »

If I wanted to plumb my CO2 reactor inline with an external pump would this pump work? http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/pro ... 181;pcid2=

I have it inline with my canister filter but want to take it off the filter and just use a pump to help cirrculate water and run the reactor.
I assume I am looking for a pump that says suitable for a protein skimmer.

Thanks

I'd go with either one of the Ehiem hobby pumps, a Mag pump or
a Quiet One pump - in that order of preference.

how would I attach the intake to this pump. Or cant I? This one looks like it has to be submersed

It can be used internally or externally.
Keep the head pressure in mind. You'll get lower flow from that pump
at 3 feet of head - about 250 gph at 3 ft, 200gph at 4 ft.

Are you going filterless or just adding some flow to the setup?

I'd also consider getting a slightly higher rated pump and turn the flow
back using a ball valve.

Also - Ehiems are the quitest of the three mentioned above. Ironically, the
Quiet Ones are not so quiet.

Thanks for the help

I am not going filterless, thinking of adding some flow and using this to run my reactor. After seeing Ghazanfar setup inspired me. Plus I am not sure how will my reactor is working. I get a few bubbles out of the spray bar, this is usually happening in the evening. I have the bubble set to about 1.5bps on my 55 and CO2 aroun 24ppm

As far as head goes do you measure where the pump would be in relation to the tank or how many feet of tube that you have the water running through

Head is the difference between the level of the pump and the height of the tube as it goes over the edge of the tank. This is also compunded by the number of turns the water has to take after the pump. The more elbows you use, the more 'effective head' you have. Most 'dual' pumps (external and submersible) I would not trust as an external pump. I like the quiet one pumps in my sump set ups.

I'm with Ghazanfar on this one, exactly the same preference order. I don't really like Quiet One as an external pump, it is the noisy one to me.

I'm running a Magdrive 9.5 on my 75 gallon for the exact same reason and it's fairly quiet. I would venture to guess that the Eheim is even quieter though.
