Review Coralife CP1300

Post by SCMurphy »

After Kris' talk at That Fish Place a couple weeks ago we went shopping and I picked up a Coralife CP1300 powerhead. These are the same idea a the Hydor Koralia powerheads. I thought that it might be a good buy as the flow rating was about 50% higher than the Koralia that cost $10 more. (The CP1300 was $34.00 in store loyalty price).

The CP line does not use magnets in the base like the Hydor line. It has a suction cup base that uses a lever to make a 'stronger' seal against the glass. The base is a piece of crap. The flow from the power head is tremendous however and it turns out that the magnets for the Koralia fit the CP. I've found that the magnets sets are available online for $10 a set. So for the cost of a Koralia 1050, I am getting almost the output of a Koralia 1400.

I'll probably buy a few sets of the magnets and pick up more of the CP's the next time I am at That Fish Place. However, I will not EVER use the supplied base.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)
